Learning outcomes describe the measurable skills, abilities, or knowledge that students should be able to demonstrate upon completing a particular degree program.

Undergraduate Programs

  • To assess and understand what it means to be a successful manager in the fashion industry 
  • To develop leadership skills 
  • To demonstrate the ability to develop in-depth written reports and assignments related to managing a fashion company and to be able to effectively present this research material both visually and orally
  • To analyze the complex issues facing the development of a diverse workforce and how to manage and lead that workforce 
  • To understand from a management standpoint how to identify and address issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility 
  • To explore the differences in human resource practices that exist in different cultures around the world

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Respond to various rhetorical situations with clear and purposeful oral and written communication.
  • Effectively integrate quantitative and qualitative information as well as various types of media to achieve a stated communication purpose.
  • Communicate within and across cultures interpersonally and in group settings in a manner that welcomes diverse perspectives and identities.

II. Quantitative Reasoning

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Identify opportunities in which numerical evidence and methods can address real-world problems.
  • Use a quantitative approach, method, or algorithm to model data.
  • Present clear data visualizations.
  • Use approved technology to conduct data analysis.

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Make reasoned arguments supported by relevant evidence.
  • Analyze cultural subjects by assessing form, content, and context.
  • Develop skills to evaluate the credibility of media sources and identify sources of misinformation.

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Create purpose-driven content for participatory media.
  • Apply technology to diverse business scenarios and information management.
  • Perform essential workplace tasks using appropriate software.

V. Information and Digital Literacy

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Utilize the college library and relevant research depositories to locate credible sources that serve research objectives.
  • Use appropriate documentation style to cite research sources in assignments.
  • Demonstrate a critical approach to the assessment and use of content found on digital platforms.

VI. Equity, Culture, and Sustainability

Students completing the LIM College general education core will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of global equity and intersocietal challenges, including the impact of climate change.
  • Convey an ethical approach to civic life that values sustainability and diversity of belief and personhood.

 

Overview:

The CARE Core empowers students to acquire the education, skills, and experience needed to launch their dream careers across three stages—Explore, Experience, and Empower. Students' progress from exploring dream careers, creating a career toolkit, developing social capital, building industry connections, to gaining hands-on experience and professional development through three required internships, including a Senior Co-op—an "entry-level equivalent" work experience. This comprehensive and unique approach prepares students to design, launch, and build their careers in the business of fashion and lifestyle, helping dream careers come true.

PLOs:

PLO 1: Explore Dream Careers: Analyze personal interests and strengths, evaluate them against career paths in fashion and lifestyle, and synthesize this information to create a vision for professional goals.

PLO 2: Develop Career Brand: Apply unique skills and experiences to develop a personal brand, organize this brand cohesively across digital and professional platforms, and communicate it effectively to potential employers.

PLO 3: Build Industry Network: Apply networking strategies to establish and maintain professional relationships within fashion and lifestyle, using both in-person and digital methods to expand your professional network.

PLO 4: Build Career Competencies: Understand and apply essential industry skills and NACE career readiness competencies, including Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology in professional contexts within fashion and lifestyle.

PLO 5: Own Career Management: Evaluate personal career goals, design strategic plans for career progression, adapt to industry changes, and embrace ongoing learning for continuous professional development.

Curriculum:

The CARE core curriculum is designed to prepare students to design, launch, and build their careers in the business of fashion and lifestyle. It empowers students through a progressive learning journey, starting with foundational knowledge and skills in CARE 1300/2 (Seminar), moving through applied practice in CARE 1620/2 (Internship 1) and CARE 2620/2 (Internship 2), and culminating in a synthesis and demonstration of mastery in CARE 4800/2 (Seminar) and CARE 4820/1 (Senior Co-op). The curriculum supports students' progression from exploring dream careers to developing a career toolkit, building industry connections, and gaining hands-on experience through required internships. This includes a culminating Senior Co-op experience that simulates "entry-level equivalent" work in the business of fashion and lifestyle.

  • CARE 1300/2 (Seminar) focuses on the foundational aspects of career exploration and planning, alongside introducing students to career services and technologies and networking strategies, and beginning the development of their career readiness, professional brand and materials design a plan for a successful career journey.
  • CARE 1620/2 (Internship 1) advances into applying personal effectiveness and workplace competencies in real-world settings, enriching professional materials development, and initiating reflective career management and employer engagement processes.
  • CARE 2620/2 (Internship 2) deepens the application of professional competencies and industry-wide technical competencies, emphasizes the refinement of professional materials and branding, and encourages strategic career management and employer engagement.
  • CARE 4800/2 (Seminar) Prepares students for Senior Co-op by focusing on career planning, job searching, leadership, and interviewing skills synthesizes learned competencies for career readiness, refines exploration and planning for career launch, and emphasizes the creation of impactful professional materials and branding.
  • CARE 4820/1 (Senior Co-op) culminates the program by demonstrating professional competencies, applying all learned skills in a real-world professional setting, and engaging in strategic career management in "entry-level equivalent" work as a culminating senior year experience, under professional guidance, to prepare for successful career launch and growth.
