My Journey To Creating My Magazine Company

As a child, my family always told me to be something great and to do what I wanted. I knew they really meant for me to become a doctor or a city worker earning a pension. I had to fight through the years of being someone I am not in order to please others. But I finally decided I needed to live for myself.

Before making the decision to change my career and lifestyle plans, I was planning to become a forensic pathologist/scientist. My interest in criminal investigation and missing person cases really drove my desire to pursue this career goal. My plan was to go to Kansas City and become the professional everyone would be proud of. Unfortunately, there was always this void in my life, making me feel empty and unhappy. This may sound dramatized, but it honestly made me feel like I was losing myself because I was not doing what I always wanted to do.

My senior year of high school came around, and I did not know how to tell my mom I changed my mind about what I want to do with my future. But I decided to open up about it and follow my dreams. A step I took to follow my dreams was to attend LIM College. I was not sure if this was the college for me, but life is all about risk, and this one led to me creating my small magazine company called Blue Magazine. Screen Shot 2020-08-27 at 3.49.23 PM

Starting my own magazine company was not easy; it was challenging to say the least. But being a part of the LIM College community definitely pushed me to become a better version of myself. In college, I had to make the decision of either waiting for a company to give me a chance or starting my own. Creating my own opportunity felt better. I understood how much of a challenge it was to get internships or get noticed, so I started to collaborate with other creatives and feature their work in my magazine. I also promoted small and upcoming companies through collaborations and advertisements. My magazine is continuing to grow with each issue as I gain more support from friends, family and fans. Despite how big my magazine company will get one day, I will never change my morals and my content will remain authentic. That is what differs Blue Magazine from all other publication companies.

Blue Magazine is not a fashion magazine; I like to call it a magazine of expression. We focus on the people more than the current trends. It is authentic. Blue Magazine is an escape for people. It consists of empowerment, creativity, and soulful content. This is why I gave it the title of Blue Magazine. The color blue represents trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, and truth. These are the characteristics and values I want my magazine to uphold through its publishing years. Untitled Design

Virtual magazines have a lot to offer, even if they are not traditional. It's right at your fingertips at all times. It is also saving the environment without the use of mass production of paper or factory work. This is beneficial for people and nature which is why it is a core value and reasoning behind the virtual version. I also wanted my magazine to not only portray images and words, but I wanted these words and images to have meaning and intent. Every page in Blue Magazine displays that sentiment.

The blood, sweat, and tears put into Blue Magazine is worth it for the amazing final product that reflects everything I am and care about. I always wonder where I will be later in life. I have to say, I still don’t know, but one thing is for sure: I’m going to be doing what I love. This is what inspired my magazine, my creativity, and my story. Blue Magazine is not a hobby. It is a way of life. It is an open space with blank pages that we fill as a community, team, and family. The people inspire the magazine. Like always, stay tuned for the blue.
