Wang Shi is an entrepreneur who has helped shape the course of China’s modernization. He is also a pioneer among China’s first advocates and active participants in social philanthropy. Shi founded Vanke in 1984 and now serves as the honorary chairman of the board. Under his leadership, Vanke has become the world’s leading real estate company and a pioneer in green building construction. After retiring as chairman of the Vanke Group, Shi founded the companies DeepRock and Deep Dive, which are dedicated to carbon neutrality, sustainable development, and supporting entrepreneurship.
The Asia Society regularly invites prominent Asian entrepreneurs, artists, screenwriters, and other celebrities for salon events. Participants range from students to practitioners in related and unrelated fields.
Said Xu, “The atmosphere at the event was very interactive, and people stayed after to network, making it a great place to build connections.”
Xu, who is from Shanghai and aspires to a career in public relations, earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from NYU and completed a post- baccalaureate program in Writing for Print and Digital Media at Northwestern University. After finishing those U.S. academic programs, she went back to China and spent two years doing PR and marketing in the luxury industry, working for Gucci Beauty, Balenciaga, and Christian Dior before enrolling at LIM.
“I can feel that I am getting closer to my dream career. LIM is the perfect place for me. I hope to build strong connections and learn fashion in New York City, which is synonymous with fashion. Therefore, here I am, building up strong PR skills for my future career,” noted Xu.
