Graduate Speaker Series: Raymond Croft

Raymond Croft, who is the Senior Art Director at Tommy Hilfiger, came to LIM on November 7 to speak to master’s degree students as part of the college’s Graduate Speaker Series.

As an art director, designer, and photographer, Croft’s work spans art, culture, and fashion and he believes that design is the most powerful medium for storytelling, capable of expressing a brand's intricate and intangible essence.

Croft has collaborated with many top brands, including Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Billy Reid, and AG Jeans. His work has also been featured in publications such as Vogue, Nylon, WWD, Refinery29 and at Nobu Hotels.

Croft talked to the assembled students about his career journey, including the importance of internships, recounting how he cold-emailed companies looking for opportunities when he was starting out.

When asked what advice he would give to students who want to stand out as they enter the industry, Croft said, "Find what makes you unique… You're not going to be the best at anything, there's going to be someone who will probably be better than you and that's okay. What you have to do is find what your unique perspective is."
