Daniella’s Senior Co-op internship enabled her to secure her first full-time job before she had even graduated. Today, she is an Assistant Buyer at Tommy Hilfiger.
What led you to enroll at LIM College?
For as long as I can remember, I always knew I wanted to study fashion. I also knew I was not a designer—I wanted to take a business approach. When my older sister was looking into colleges, she came across LIM and told me about it. I was in 8th grade, and I became fascinated by the great programs and the idea that I could go to school for fashion business. When the time came to apply to college, LIM was my first choice.
What’s currently happening in your career?
I’m an Assistant Buyer at Tommy Hilfiger in the Company Stores Kids Department. Specifically, I work for the “Girls” team. I work on reporting, recapping, and understanding the business, and work with my team to assort and buy each season’s line.
Tell us about the career path that led you here.
My career path started with my Senior Co-op at LIM. I interned for Tommy Hilfiger on their Full-Price and E-commerce team. Towards the end of my internship, I expressed interest in a full-time position. There was no spot available on my team. However, the Company Store Kids team was hiring. A few interviews later, I got the job! I was so proud to have accepted my first full-time job before even walking across the graduation stage to accept my diploma.
How did your LIM education help prepare you for your career?
All of the courses and internships I completed at LIM helped prepare me for my career. I am so grateful for the LIM internships I took on and for my Senior Co-op, because those really helped me understand what it was like to be in a full-time job and what would be expected of me on a daily basis. LIM prepares students for the real world.
Are you working remotely now? If so, how has that transition gone?
I've been remote for about a month. In the beginning it was a little challenging; however, my team and I worked together to find the best, most efficient way for us to get our jobs done. Communication is key and has been keeping us aligned and on the ball with our projects and tasks. I am so fortunate to be a part of such a strong, flexible team that has helped make this transition seamless.
Do you have any tips for others who are also making a remote transition?
What has helped me the most during this time has been continuing to plan my days and maintain my usual routines. Keeping structure keeps me on track in my work and personal life. It’s a stressful time for everyone around the world, and I think it is important to have something to help you de-stress at the end of every day. For me, it has been family time and getting fresh air in the yard.
