Since graduation, Lindsay has worked for well-known names in the fashion business, including Victoria's Secret, Club Monaco, Gap Inc., and now Giorgio Armani.
Why did you choose LIM College?
I wanted a college that specialized in the fashion business and offered plenty of opportunities to network in the industry. LIM provides so many chances to experience fashion first-hand through internships, volunteer events, and more. It was an easy choice, and I'm so glad I chose LIM!
What’s happening in your career?
I’m a Retail Planning Coordinator for Giorgio Armani. I help manage the buying plan, do planning and forecasting for U.S., Canada, and Mexico retail stores, and provide business recaps identifying risks and opportunities. I work closely with the buying team to analyze seasonal merchandise and execute strategies, and use analyses to support buying decisions.
Tell us about your career path.
I interned in e-commerce, which turned into my first full-time role as a Digital Merchandising Coordinator at Victoria's Secret. I then became an E-Commerce Operations Coordinator with Club Monaco. After taking a merchandising-focused role, I found creating merchandising strategies and planning assortments very rewarding. I loved the challenge of doing deep dives into style-selling and identifying trends to make decisions.
How did LIM prepare you for your career?
I found the Fashion Merchandising curriculum so helpful. The professors have first-hand experience in the fashion industry and an abundance of knowledge that gave me insights I'll use throughout my career. Learning retail math was one of my most important lessons. I use that every single day. Interning prepared me to network in the industry, learn first-hand about day-to-day responsibilities, and get a better understanding of what I wanted to do after graduation.
What career accomplishment are you most proud of?
I developed a website merchandising idea that got presented to the CEO at Club Monaco. My idea was approved, and it was thrilling to work with cross-functional teams to put it into action. This ended up increasing shopping conversion by 12%. Making decisions that improve the business is incredibly rewarding.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in your field?
Passion leads to success. If you love what you do and you're good at it, you will succeed. Make a professional plan for yourself. Decide the type of position you want, where you want to be in five years / 10 years and go for it! I decided I wanted to work in fashion merchandising at one of the biggest brands in the world, and I didn’t quit until it happened.
