Mei-Han Huang is pursuing a degree in Consumer Analytics at LIM College, blending her interests in fashion and numbers-driven insights. With hands-on learning, industry connections, and real-world experience in New York City, she’s preparing for a career in big data.

What made you choose LIM to pursue your master’s degree?
I have always wanted to work on the business side of fashion, and LIM’s reputation as a top fashion business school made it the perfect choice. The hands-on training and internship requirement convinced me that I would gain the most from this master's program. Additionally, with the increasing demand for consumer data, this program offered exactly what I needed to fill the gaps in my skill set.

Tell us about your Consumer Analytics program. What sort of work are you doing in it?
This Consumer Analytics program is designed for those interested in both fashion and data insights. It focuses on analyzing numbers, translating them into compelling stories for clients, and enhancing customer experiences. The coursework explores strategies to improve brand perception and engagement.

My courses are highly practical—for example, in one class we were assigned to visit designated stores here in New York and analyze their design, atmosphere, and overall customer experience.

What are the benefits of studying the fashion business in New York City?
Studying in New York has been incredible. The city is buzzing with activity, offering endless opportunities and the chance to meet inspiring people. One of the biggest benefits of studying here is networking with like-minded peers who share a passion for fashion. Additionally, we have access to numerous fashion show volunteer opportunities, which provide valuable exposure.

What are your professional goals?
My goal is to become a Consumer Insight Analyst, Marketing Analyst, or work in CRM. As consumer data becomes more and more relevant in this space, brands are seeking customized insights to better understand their audiences. The Consumer Analytics program has been the perfect fit, helping me develop the analytical skills I had lacked and preparing me for a career in big data.

What advice would you give to another international student considering an LIM College master’s program?
Since LIM offers a variety of programs, it's important to identify which skills you want to develop and what career path you see yourself on. Beyond just academics, the school provides many opportunities, from on-campus activities and industry guest speakers to student clubs and organizations. For example, I served as a marketing analyst for The Lexington Line, LIM’s student-run magazine, which was a great time!

Overall, the opportunities here are endless—you just have to take the initiative to seek them out.
