Degree: Fashion Marketing

Ava began her college career at Parsons School of Design. Deciding she desired more industry-based classes and hands-on learning, she transferred to LIM College as an online Fashion Marketing major, with aspirations to start her own fashion line.

What made you choose LIM as the next step for your education?
I started my first year of college at Parsons School of Design, which is also in New York City. I choose to transfer to LIM because I really liked the classes they offered, along with the majors. LIM’s focus on fashion and business is unlike any other school that I’ve seen, which is what sparked my interest and convinced me to come here.

What are the differences between your former and current schools and what they focus on?
I see a big difference between Parsons and LIM. I felt like Parsons primarily focused on the design aspect of fashion and less on the business area, which is where I wanted to be. LIM has given me the opportunity to study fashion and business and has made me feel like I’m really learning what my career goals are and working to reach those.

That's wonderful. What are your career goals?
I’m very interested in public relations and marketing for a fashion company, or even starting a fashion line of my own one day!

What internships have you completed as an LIM student?
LIM prioritizes real-world experience through internships, which I think is crucial to getting started in the fashion industry. I’m currently enrolled in Internship 1 this fall, where I’ll be working in retail at TJ Maxx. I will be getting hands-on experience in merchandising and get to see how a company does behind-the-scenes work to provide great shopping experiences for customers.

Any favorite LIM classes you'd like to tell us about?
My favorite class has been Introduction to the Fashion Business, because it gave me a great understanding of all the roles in the fashion industry, along with a basis of knowledge I know will be useful throughout the rest of my time here and in the industry. I’ve also had great experiences with all my professors who make me feel like they really care about their students.

Anything else you’d like to add?
Nope! I’m just super happy with my decision to transfer to LIM, and I know it will help me succeed in my future in fashion.
