Actor, social activist, and fashion and design entrepreneur Gbenga Akinnagbe will be the featured guest at LIM College's next Fashion Media Speaker Series event.
Well known for acting roles that include regular characters on "The Wire" and "The Deuce" on HBO, and now starring in To Kill a Mockingbird on Broadway, Mr. Akinnagbe comes to LIM's campus to discuss his career, his social media activism, his lifestyle brand Liberated People, and more.
Created by Akinnagbe in 2012, Liberated People is a t-shirt company that highlights the liberation dates of nation states around the world. The brand has also started powerful online campaigns to fund social impact groups, like the Trayvon Martin Foundation and Black Women’s Blueprint.
Akinnagbe, who is of Nigerian descent, will also discuss his work as founder of Enitan Vintage, a company that redesigns antique furniture in the Dutch fabrics that are a fashion staple in West Africa.
The conversation with Akinnagbe will be led by Professor Andrew Cotto, full-time faculty member in LIM's Arts & Sciences department. Students interested in learning about fashion business marketing / ownership and social impact brands are encouraged to join.
Presented by LIM College’s Department of Arts & Sciences, this event is free to attend and open to all LIM students.
