Fatmata Camara (’25), a student in LIM College’s online bachelor’s degree program in Fashion Merchandising, has received the inaugural “Future Fashion” award. Sponsored by Macy’s and awarded through Fashion Group International (FGI), the award comes with a $1,000 tuition grant.
Fatmata was recognized at FGI’s 28th annual Rising Star Awards luncheon, a prestigious industry event that celebrates up and coming talent in the fields of fashion and beauty.
Prior to the luncheon, Maryanne Grisz, President and CEO of FGI noted, “The Future Fashion Award sponsored by Macy’s marks a milestone for FGI – the first ever Rising Star Award presented to a college student. The award will recognize one stand-out junior or senior year student, currently enrolled in a fashion merchandising program at an affiliated university within FGI’s U.S. network, whose passion, nuanced analysis, creativity, and vision marks them out as a rising star in the field of fashion merchandising.”
Along with financial support, winning the Future Fashion award also provided Fatmata with the opportunity to connect with influential figures in the fashion business. At the Rising Star Awards, she had the chance to meet with Macy’s representatives Jenna Cordina, Senior Director of Assortment Strategy for Ready to Wear, and Kelli Lewis, Director of Social Impact. These connections offer Fatmata invaluable insights and potential mentorship opportunities as she advances her career in fashion merchandising.
Ten students from five different colleges and universities in the U.S. were nominated by their faculty for the Future Fashion award, with Fatmata emerging as the sole recipient.
